Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a Clean Bar clean?
Five ingredients, all of them food you could name without reading a label. Our Clean Bars are built from whole ingredients like dates, coconut, cacao, macadamias, cinnamon and freeze dried fruit. No protein isolates, no syrups, no binders, no flavours, no preservatives, no chemicals. They are grain free, plant based and gluten free. If you cannot picture the ingredient growing somewhere, it is not in the bar.
Are muesli bars healthy, and how are Clean Bars different?
It depends what is holding the bar together. Most supermarket muesli bars are built on oats, glucose syrup, rice syrup or invert sugar, plus vegetable oil and emulsifiers, which is how a bar marketed as healthy ends up closer to a biscuit. Clean Bars take a different route. They are grain free, so there are no oats or puffed rice, and they hold together with dates and coconut rather than syrup. Five ingredients, nothing added to bulk them out.
Dates are the main ingredient. Is that a lot of sugar?
Dates are naturally sweet, so yes, there is sugar in these bars, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The distinction that matters is added versus natural. We do not add cane sugar, glucose syrup, rice malt syrup or any sweetener. The sweetness comes from whole dates and fruit, which arrive with their fibre, potassium and antioxidants still attached. That is a different thing to sugar poured in from a drum, and it is the whole reason we build bars this way.
Are Clean Bars gluten free, grain free and paleo friendly?
Yes to gluten free and grain free. There are no oats, no wheat, no puffed rice and no grain of any kind in these bars, which is unusual for the category and the reason they suit people who react to grains rather than just to gluten. Most flavours also fit within a paleo style of eating, since they are built from fruit, nuts, coconut and spices. Check the individual flavour if you are following a strict protocol.
Are they vegan and dairy free?
Yes. Clean Bars are plant based and contain no dairy, no whey, no egg and no honey. Every flavour is built from fruit, nuts, coconut and spices. Worth noting that this is the only Blue Dinosaur range that is fully plant based, because our Protein + Fibre and Protein + Collagen bars use whey and collagen respectively, both of which are animal derived.
Are Clean Bars nut free or safe for school lunchboxes?
Not all of them. Lemon & Macadamia contains macadamias, so it is not suitable for a nut free school. Banana Bread, Lamington and Berry & Coconut are built on fruit, cacao and coconut rather than nuts. Coconut is worth flagging separately: it is not classified as a tree nut under Australian allergen labelling, but many schools include it in a blanket nut ban, so check your school's specific policy before packing one. Full allergen panels are on every product page.
Are these good for kids and school lunchboxes?
They work well as a lunchbox or after school snack, mainly because there is nothing in them a parent needs to explain. Five whole ingredients, no added sugar, no artificial colours or preservatives, and they taste enough like a treat that they actually get eaten rather than coming home again. Banana Bread and Lamington are the two that tend to win kids over first. Check the allergen note above if your school has a nut free policy.
Why are the Clean Bars out of stock, and when are they back?
All four Clean Bars are currently between production runs and marked as returning soon. We make these in small batches with whole ingredients rather than continuously, so there are stretches where a flavour sells through before the next run lands. Add your email to the back in stock alert on any flavour and you will hear the moment it is available, before it goes out to the wider list. If you cannot wait, our Protein + Fibre range is in stock now.
What is the difference between Clean Bars and your protein bars?
Different jobs entirely. Clean Bars are a whole food snack: five ingredients, plant based, grain free, built for an afternoon energy dip, a lunchbox or something to eat on the way somewhere. They are not a protein product. Our Protein + Fibre bars carry 20 g of whey protein and 10 g of fibre and are built for training, recovery and staying full. If you want real food in a wrapper, start with Clean Bars. If you want protein, start there instead.
What exactly is in each flavour?
Banana Bread: organic freeze dried bananas, dates, cinnamon and coconut. Tastes like banana bread, travels like a bar. Lamington: raw organic cacao, organic vanilla bean and organic coconut. Five whole ingredients that somehow land on an actual lamington. Lemon & Macadamia: macadamias, coconut and organic cold pressed lemon oil. The unexpected one that converts sceptics. Berry & Coconut: coconut, dates, and blueberry, strawberry and acai berry powders, blended with organic coconut oil. Ten cents from every Berry bar goes to the McGrath Foundation.
How should I store them, and how long do they last?
Store them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. If you are somewhere warm, or it is the middle of an Australian summer, keep them in the fridge and they will hold their texture better. Because there are no preservatives in these bars, they behave like the real food they are made from. Check the best before date printed on each wrapper.
